Organizations

American Horse Council
The AHC is the national legislative representative for the horse industry. The mission of the AHC is to promote and protect the equine industry by representing its interests in Congress and in federal regulatory agencies on national issues of importance.  The New Mexico Horse Council is a state horse council member of the American Horse Council.

Coalition of State Horse Councils
The Coalition of State Horse Councils (CSHC) is a group of 43 state horse councils from around the country that have banded together to provide grassroots support and education to state horse councils, encourage and grow participation in state horse councils, and provide national issues support to the American Horse Council.

Unwanted Horse Coalition
The mission of the Unwanted Horse Coalition is to reduce the number of unwanted horses and to improve their welfare through education and the efforts of organizations committed to the health, safety, and responsible care and disposition of these horses. Licensed Horse Rescues in New Mexico 

The New Mexico Livestock Board licenses equine rescue, sanctuary and retirement  facilities in the state. This includes facilities which provide care for captured wild horses that cannot be returned to their range.  Listed below are the facilities currently licensed and approved  . These licensed facilities have subscribed to the standards of care for horses as detailed in "Care Guidelines for Equine Rescue and Retirement Facilities", published by the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

No persons, facilities or organizations other than those listed below are recognized by the State of New Mexico as equine rescue, sanctuary or retirement facilities.  Any efforts by any individual, facility or organization to promote such a facility and/or solicit donations or funds for such a facility not currently on this list should be reported to the New Mexico Livestock Board office or the New Mexico Attorney General's Office.
