NMHC Foundation

Established in 1970, the New Mexico Horse Council
is a group of men and women dedicated to the improvement of the horse industry in New Mexico.

Board of Directors
The New Mexico Horse Council (NMHC) is seeking candidates for the NMHC Board of Directors.  Board members serve a three year term and must be members of the council.  In general, the Board of Directors oversees the operations of the council and are asked to participate in monthly conference calls, attend four (4) in person meetings per year and serve on at least one NMHC committee. Board members may also be asked to assist with special projects and outreach events such as NM State Fair or local equine events. Term of service will be January 2019 until December 2021.

Time Commitment: 

  • At least one hour per month for conference calls.
  • Additional time for committee meetings and special projects. 
  • Four hours at the NM State Fair during the month of September.
  • Attendance at the Annual General Membership Meeting, typically held in November, December or January in the Albuquerque metro area.

Skills needed:

  • Passion for horses and the equine community as a whole.
  • Ability to listen, analyze, think creatively and work one-on-one with people and in a group setting.
  • Willing to learn more about NMHC, prepare for and attend board and committee meetings, ask questions, take responsibility and follow through on assignments, open doors in the community.
  • Open to developing skills, such as cultivating and soliciting funds, recruiting additional board members and other volunteers and reading financial statements.
  • Possess honesty, sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views, a friendly, responsive and patient approach, community-building skills, a sense of values and a sense of humor, personal integrity and concern for NMHC's development.

The Board consists of fifteen (15) members, serving 3-year terms. Five (5) are elected each year. Year in parentheses after each name is when the term in office expires.  Elections to the Board are held at the Annual Meeting.  The Board elects its own officers.

To help accomplish our mission, the Horse Council provides booth space and a stall in front of the Horse Arena at the NM State Fair for use by member organizations to display a horse and information about their breed or discipline.  Contact Ron Morris for more information.
